[Editorial] Unity or Collapse — The Democratic Path in Donghae Is Clear

A rare political opening has emerged in Donghae.

동해에 드문 정치적 기회가 열렸다.

For the first time, the possibility of electing a Democratic mayor is not theoretical — it is real.

처음으로 민주당 시장 탄생이 ‘가능성’이 아니라 ‘현실적 선택지’가 되었다.

And yet, the greatest threat to that possibility is not the opponent.

그러나 그 가능성을 위협하는 가장 큰 요인은 상대가 아니다.

It is internal division.

바로 내부 분열이다.

Donghae is not a forgiving electoral landscape.

동해는 관대한 선거 지형이 아니다.

It is structurally conservative, organizationally disciplined, and historically consistent in its outcomes.

구조적으로 보수적이며, 조직적으로 단단하고, 결과 또한 반복적으로 일관되어 왔다.

In such a city, victory does not come from ambition — it comes from cohesion.

이런 도시에서 승리는 열망으로 오지 않는다. 결집으로 온다.

This is not a matter of interpretation.

이것은 해석의 문제가 아니다.

It is arithmetic.

수학의 문제다.

If one side consolidates while the other fragments, the result is predetermined.

한쪽이 결집하고 다른 쪽이 분열하면, 결과는 이미 정해진다.

No message, no policy, no late surge can reverse that equation.

어떤 메시지도, 어떤 정책도, 어떤 막판 바람도 이 공식을 뒤집지 못한다.

And yet, the same pattern repeats.

그럼에도 같은 패턴이 반복되고 있다.

Competition leaves scars.

경쟁은 상처를 남긴다.

Supporters remain divided.

지지층은 갈라진다.

Energy dissipates.

힘은 분산된다.

What follows is not defeat by the opponent — but defeat by self-inflicted erosion.

그 결과는 상대에게 지는 것이 아니라, 스스로 무너지는 패배다.

Let there be no illusion.

착각은 없어야 한다.

This election will not be decided by who the candidate is.

이번 선거는 누가 후보가 되느냐로 결정되지 않는다.

It will be decided by whether everyone becomes one after that decision.

그 결정 이후 모두가 하나가 되느냐로 결정된다.

Anything less than total unity is not partial failure.

완전한 단합이 아닌 것은 부분적 실패가 아니다.

It is total defeat.

그것은 전면적인 패배다.

A staged show of unity is meaningless.

연출된 단합은 아무 의미가 없다.

A photograph is not integration.

사진 한 장이 통합을 의미하지 않는다.

A handshake is not consolidation.

악수 한 번이 결집을 보장하지 않는다.

Only one thing matters:

중요한 것은 단 하나다.

a complete merger of will, organization, and action.

의지와 조직, 행동의 완전한 통합이다.

Without it, the outcome is not uncertain — it is inevitable.

이것이 없다면 결과는 불확실한 것이 아니라 필연이다.

The opportunity in Donghae is real.

동해의 기회는 분명 존재한다.

But it is narrow, conditional, and unforgiving.

그러나 그 기회는 좁고, 조건적이며, 냉정하다.

Divide, and it disappears.

분열하면 사라진다.

Unite, and it becomes history.

단합하면 역사가 된다.

The choice is no longer strategic.

이제 선택은 전략의 문제가 아니다.

It is existential.

존재의 문제다.
