AI를 못 가르치는 교육은 미래를 포기하는 일이다

AI는 더 이상 미래 기술이 아니다. 산업과 안보, 금융과 행정까지 좌우하는 국가 경쟁력의 핵심 인프라다. 미국과 중국은 기술 패권을 두고 사활을 건 경쟁을 벌이고 있고, 기업은 AI 역량을 갖춘 인재 확보에 총력을 기울이고 있다. 이런 시대에 강원 교실은 어디에 서 있는가.

AI is no longer a technology of the future. It is the core infrastructure shaping national competitiveness across industry, security, finance, and governance. The United States and China are locked in a fierce battle for technological supremacy, while companies compete globally to secure AI-skilled talent. In this era, where do Gangwon’s classrooms stand?

여전히 AI는 ‘시범사업’이고 ‘선택 프로그램’에 머물러 있다. 일부 학교의 특별활동으로는 부족하다. AI는 소수 영재의 전유물이 아니라 모든 학생이 갖추어야 할 기본 문해력이다. 읽기·쓰기처럼, 이제는 AI를 이해하고 활용하는 능력이 생존 조건이 되었다.

Yet AI education remains confined to “pilot programs” and “optional initiatives.” Occasional enrichment activities in select schools are not enough. AI is not a privilege for a gifted few—it is a foundational literacy every student must possess. Like reading and writing, the ability to understand and utilize AI has become a condition for survival.

강원이 반도체·바이오·수소 산업을 외치면서도 그 산업을 이끌 지역 인재 양성에 소극적이라면, 전략은 공허하다. 외부 인재에 의존하는 산업은 뿌리가 약하다. 교육이 바뀌지 않으면 지역의 미래도 없다.

If Gangwon champions semiconductors, biotechnology, and hydrogen industries while neglecting to cultivate local talent to lead them, its strategy is hollow. An industry dependent on external talent has weak roots. Without educational transformation, there is no regional future.

다가오는 교육감 선거는 분명해야 한다. 초·중·고 전 학생 AI 기본소양 의무화, 고교 졸업 전 1인 1 프로젝트, 교원 역량 강화와 농산어촌 격차 해소 방안까지 구체적 수치와 일정으로 제시해야 한다. 선언이 아니라 실행 계획을 요구한다.

The upcoming superintendent election must be clear and decisive. Mandatory AI literacy for all K–12 students, one capstone project per high school graduate, strengthened teacher capacity, and concrete plans to bridge rural-urban gaps must be presented with measurable targets and timelines. What is needed is not rhetoric, but execution.

AI를 못 가르치는 교육은 학생을 약하게 만들고, 지역을 약하게 만들며, 결국 국가를 약하게 만든다. 이제는 선택의 시간이 아니라 결단의 시간이다.

An education system that fails to teach AI weakens students, weakens the region, and ultimately weakens the nation. This is no longer a moment for hesitation—it is a moment for decisive action.
