Gangwon Education Office Hosts “Book Time Day – Reading Together” for World Book Day 2026

강원특별자치도교육청은 4월 23일(목) 세계 책의 날을 맞아 도내 초·중·고·특수학교 학생과 교직원이 함께 참여하는 2026년 세계 책의 날 ‘책틈날-함께 책 읽기’ 행사를 운영한다.

The Gangwon State Office of Education announced that it will host the 2026 World Book Day event, “Book Time Day – Reading Together,” on April 23 (Thursday), with participation from students and faculty across elementary, middle, high, and special schools in the province.

이번 행사는 스마트폰 등 디지털 기기 사용을 잠시 멈추고 책 읽기에 집중하는 환경을 조성해 함께 읽는 문화를 확산하기 위해 마련됐다. ‘책틈날’은 ‘틈나는 시간마다 책을 읽는 날’이라는 의미를 담고 있다.

The event aims to encourage a culture of shared reading by creating an environment where participants pause the use of digital devices such as smartphones and focus on reading. The name “Book Time Day” reflects the idea of reading whenever there is free time.

행사 당일 도내 학교는 오전 8시 30분부터 12시까지 교실과 학교도서관 등에서 자율적으로 10~20분간 함께 책 읽기 활동을 운영한다. 읽을 책은 교육과정과 학생 수준을 고려해 학급 및 학교에서 자율적으로 선정한다.

On the day of the event, schools across the province will conduct 10 to 20 minutes of group reading sessions between 8:30 a.m. and noon in classrooms and school libraries. The reading materials will be selected autonomously by each class and school, considering curriculum and student levels.

참여 학교와 학급은 줌(ZOOM) 또는 유튜브 ‘학끼오TV’ 라이브 방송에 접속해 다른 학교와 함께 책 읽는 모습을 공유하고, 도내 희망 학급 간 동시에 책을 읽는 특별한 독서 경험을 나누게 된다.

Participating schools and classes will connect via Zoom or YouTube “Hakkkio TV” live broadcasts to share their reading activities with other schools, creating a unique experience of reading simultaneously with peers across the province.

이번 행사는 단순한 독서 행사에 그치지 않고 학교 현장의 자율적 독서활동을 촉진하는 참여형 프로그램으로 운영된다.

This initiative goes beyond a simple reading event, serving as a participatory program designed to promote voluntary reading activities within schools.

행사 인증에 참여한 학급 가운데 200학급을 추첨해 간식 꾸러미를 제공할 예정이며, 학생들은 함께 읽기의 즐거움과 공동체 독서 문화를 경험하게 된다.

Among the participating classes that complete event verification, 200 classes will be selected by lottery to receive snack packages, allowing students to experience the joy of reading together and fostering a sense of community.

또한 학교도서관과 연계한 자체 ‘책틈날’ 프로그램 운영을 권장해 학교별 특색을 반영한 다양한 독서 활동이 이루어질 수 있도록 지원한다.

In addition, schools are encouraged to run their own “Book Time Day” programs in connection with school libraries, supporting diverse reading activities tailored to each school’s unique characteristics.

강원특별자치도교육청은 이번 행사를 통해 학생들의 독서 흥미를 높이고, 학교 중심의 지속 가능한 독서·인문교육 문화 확산에 기여할 것으로 기대하고 있다.

The Gangwon State Office of Education expects this event to enhance students’ interest in reading and contribute to the spread of sustainable, school-centered reading and humanities education.

#이인범 문화체육특수교육과장은 “책 읽기는 모든 배움의 출발점이며, 함께 읽는 경험은 학생들에게 더 큰 즐거움과 의미를 준다”며 “세계 책의 날을 계기로 강원도 모든 학교에 책 읽는 문화가 더욱 자연스럽게 자리 잡기를 기대한다”고 말했다.

Lee In-beom, Director of the Culture, Sports and Special Education Division, stated, “Reading is the starting point of all learning, and the experience of reading together brings greater joy and meaning to students. We hope that World Book Day will serve as an opportunity for a reading culture to take root more naturally in all schools across Gangwon.”
