“아이의 하루를 바꾸는 약속” 동해, 작은 멘토링에서 시작된 큰 변화

동해의 한 오후, 아이들과 청년들이 한 공간에 모였다.

서로의 이름을 부르고, 조심스럽게 웃으며 이야기를 시작한다.

이날은 단순한 협약식이 아니라, 누군가의 내일을 바꾸는 첫 장면이었다.

On an afternoon in Donghae, children and young adults gathered in one place.

They called each other by name, sharing cautious smiles as conversations began.

It was not just a signing ceremony—it was the opening scene of someone’s brighter tomorrow.

이번 협약은 동해시가족센터, 한국동서발전 동해발전본부, 그리고 강원대학교 사회복지학과가 함께 손을 맞잡으며 시작됐다.

목적은 단 하나, 지역의 아동과 청소년이 겪는 ‘보이지 않는 격차’를 줄이는 것.

This partnership brings together the Donghae Family Center, the Donghae Power Headquarters of Korea East-West Power, and the Department of Social Welfare at Kangwon National University.

Their shared goal is simple yet profound: to reduce the invisible gaps faced by children and youth in the region.

약 30명의 멘토와 멘티가 함께하는 이 프로그램은 단순한 ‘공부 도움’을 넘어선다.

대학생 멘토는 아이들의 학습을 돕는 동시에, 마음의 이야기를 들어주는 또 하나의 어른이 된다.

With around 30 mentors and mentees participating, this program goes beyond academic support.

University student mentors become not only tutors, but also trusted listeners—another caring adult in a child’s life.

역할은 명확하다.

한국동서발전은 든든한 재정적 기반을 마련하고,

동해시가족센터는 프로그램의 시작과 끝을 책임진다.

그리고 강원대학교는 따뜻한 청년들을 연결한다.

Each partner plays a clear role.

Korea East-West Power provides the financial backbone,

the Donghae Family Center oversees the entire program,

and Kangwon National University connects compassionate young mentors.

하지만 이 협약의 진짜 의미는 숫자나 구조에 있지 않다.

아이 한 명이 “나도 할 수 있다”고 믿게 되는 순간,

그 작은 변화가 지역 전체를 바꾸기 때문이다.

Yet, the true meaning of this agreement lies beyond numbers or structure.

The moment a child begins to believe, “I can do this,”

that small shift has the power to transform an entire community.

지속적인 만남 속에서 아이들은 성장하고,

멘토는 책임을 배우며,

지역은 조금 더 따뜻해진다.

Through continuous connections, children grow,

mentors learn responsibility,

and the community becomes warmer.

동해의 오늘은 조용하지만, 분명히 달라지고 있다.
