폭우 속에서 피어난 용기, 두 해양경찰의 선행

강원도립대학교(총장 최종균)는 11월 5일(수) 오전 10시,

동해지방해양경찰청에서 조동희 경감과 김호관 경위에게

감사장을 수여했다.

On November 5th (Wed) at 10 a.m.,

Kangwon State University (President Choi Jong-gyun)

presented letters of appreciation to Inspector Cho Dong-hee and Lieutenant Kim Ho-gwan

at the Donghae Regional Coast Guard Office.

이번 감사는 강원도립대 성인학습자 학생의 생명을 구한

두 해양경찰관의 의로운 행동에 대한 감사의 뜻으로 마련되었다.

The ceremony was held to express gratitude

for their courageous act of saving the life

of a Kangwon State University adult learner.

지난 10월 13일(월), 속초로 훈련을 가던 중

빗길에 미끄러져 차량이 전복되는 사고를 목격한 두 사람은

망설임 없이 구조에 나섰다.

On October 13th, while heading to Sokcho for training,

the two officers witnessed a car overturn in the rain

and rushed to help without hesitation.

조동희 경감은 빗속에서 차량 위로 올라가 문을 열고

운전자를 직접 구출했고,

김호관 경위는 약 한 시간 동안 차량 통제에 나서며

2차 사고를 막았다.

Inspector Cho climbed onto the overturned vehicle in the heavy rain,

opened the door, and rescued the driver himself,

while Lieutenant Kim controlled nearby traffic for nearly an hour,

preventing secondary accidents amid the storm.

운전자는 강원도립대에 재학 중인 만학도로,

수업을 마치고 귀가하던 길이었다.

The driver was an adult learner at Kangwon State University,

returning home after class.

사고 처리가 끝난 뒤, 두 경찰관은 조용히 현장을 떠났고

이들의 선행은 뒤늦게

운전자의 아들이 온라인 커뮤니티에 글을 올리며 알려졌다.

After the situation was resolved,

the officers quietly left the scene,

and their good deed only became known later

when the driver’s son shared the story online.

#최종균 총장은 “두 경찰분은 폭우 속 위험한 현장에서

투철한 사명감과 희생정신으로 본교 학생의 생명을 구했다”며

“이 용기와 헌신이 우리 사회의 귀감이 되기를 바란다”고 전했다.

“In the midst of a dangerous storm,

the two officers acted with a strong sense of duty and selfless courage

to save the life of one of our students.

Their bravery and compassion are a true inspiration to us all.”

작은 용기가 누군가의 인생을 지킨 그날,

폭우 속에서 피어난 빛은 오래도록 기억될 것이다.
