삼척시, 석탄산업 종료 및 폐광지역 대책 마련 국회 토론회 참석

삼척시는 7월 4일 국회에서 개최된 「석탄산업 종료 및 폐광지역 경제 회생 대책 마련을 위한 정책 토론회」에 참석해 지역 현안을 공유하고 정부와의 협력 방안을 논의하였다.
Samcheok City participated in the Policy Forum on the Termination of the Coal Industry and Measures for Economic Revitalization of Abandoned Mine Areas held at the National Assembly on July 4, where local issues were shared and cooperation with the central government was discussed.

이번 토론회는 석탄공사의 마지막 광산인 도계광업소 폐광을 계기로, 국내 석탄산업의 종료와 폐광지역의 지속 가능한 발전 방안을 모색하고자 마련된 자리로, 이철규 국회 산업통상자원중소벤처기업위원회 위원장, 산업통상자원부, 삼척시장과 도계읍번영회를 비롯한 관련 자치단체장 및 주민단체, 광해광업공단 등이 함께하였다.
The forum was convened to explore sustainable development strategies for abandoned mining regions following the closure of the Dogye Mine—the last operational coal mine under the Korea Coal Corporation—marking the end of Korea’s coal industry. Participants included Rep. Lee Chul-gyu, Chair of the National Assembly’s Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups Committee, officials from the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, the Mayor of Samcheok, representatives from Dogye Town’s Prosperity Association, heads of related local governments and civic groups, as well as the Korea Mine Rehabilitation and Mineral Resources Corporation (KOMIR).

이 자리에 참석한 박상수 삼척시장은 도계 지역의 현실을 토대로 지역경제 회생을 위한 실질적 대체 산업 육성 필요성을 강조하며, 현재 추진 중인 첨단가속기 기반 의료산업 클러스터 조성 사업의 조속한 예비타당성조사 통과와 국비 지원을 건의하였다.
Mayor Park Sang-soo of Samcheok, who attended the forum, underscored the urgent need for practical alternative industries to revitalize the local economy based on the current situation in Dogye. He called for swift approval of the preliminary feasibility study and national funding support for the city’s ongoing initiative to establish a medical industry cluster based on advanced particle accelerators.
