칠성로 명품소나무 가로수길, 황금빛 코스모스로 물들다

유휴 공간 활용해 도로변 경관 개선…잡초 억제와 관리비 절감도 기대

Project beautifies unused roadside spaces while helping control weeds and reduce maintenance costs

강릉시 칠성로의 명품소나무 가로수길이 올여름 황금빛 코스모스가 만개한 아름다운 꽃길로 새롭게 변신했다.

Chilsong-ro’s signature pine-lined road in Gangneung has been transformed into a beautiful flower path filled with golden cosmos blossoms this summer.

강릉시는 주민참여예산 2천만 원을 투입해 지난 6월 칠성로 명품소나무 가로수길 약 1km 구간에 코스모스 씨앗을 파종하고 꽃길을 조성했다.

Gangneung City invested KRW 20 million through its participatory budgeting program to sow cosmos seeds in June along an approximately one-kilometer section of Chilsong-ro’s pine-lined road.

이번 사업은 가로수 사이의 빈 공간에 매년 잡초가 무성하게 자라 도로변 경관을 해치고, 잡초 제거에 지속적으로 인력과 예산이 필요했던 문제를 개선하기 위해 추진됐다.

The project was launched to address the recurring growth of weeds in spaces between the roadside trees. The weeds had affected the appearance of the area and required ongoing labor and funding for removal.

시는 대규모 시설물을 새로 설치하는 대신 가로수 사이의 유휴 공간에 코스모스를 심는 방식을 선택했다. 비교적 적은 예산으로 도로변 경관을 개선하고 시민들에게 계절감 있는 볼거리를 제공하는 동시에 코스모스의 생육을 통해 잡초 발생을 억제하는 효과도 거두고 있다.

Rather than installing large new structures, the city planted cosmos flowers in unused spaces between the trees. This cost-effective approach improves the roadside landscape, provides residents with seasonal scenery and helps suppress weed growth.

도로를 따라 길게 이어지는 황금빛 코스모스와 명품소나무가 조화를 이루면서 기존의 가로수길에도 계절감과 생동감이 더해졌다. 차량으로 칠성로를 지나는 시민들에게도 한층 다채롭고 새로운 도시경관을 선사하고 있다.

The golden cosmos flowers stretching along the road blend with the stately pine trees, bringing seasonal color and vitality to the streetscape. The flower-lined route also offers motorists a fresh and distinctive view of the city.

이번 꽃길 조성은 주민들이 직접 사업을 제안하고 예산 편성 과정에 참여하는 주민참여예산으로 추진됐다는 점에서도 의미가 크다. 시민들의 생활공간을 아름답게 가꾸면서 기존 관리에 투입되던 인력과 비용까지 줄일 수 있는 생활밀착형 녹지사업의 좋은 사례가 될 것으로 기대된다.

The initiative is also significant because it was carried out through participatory budgeting, which allows residents to propose projects and take part in decisions on public spending. It is expected to serve as a strong example of a community-focused green project that beautifies everyday spaces while reducing maintenance labor and costs.

#신승춘 강릉시 녹지과장은 “큰 시설이나 많은 예산을 들이지 않고 기존 녹지공간을 활용해 시민들이 직접 체감할 수 있는 도시경관을 만들었다는 데 의미가 있다”며 “시민들이 일상에서 계절의 변화를 느끼고 걷고 싶은 거리를 만날 수 있도록 지역 특성과 도로 여건을 고려한 계절꽃길을 지속적으로 확대하겠다”고 말했다.

“This project is meaningful because it created a visible improvement to the urban landscape by making use of existing green spaces without requiring large facilities or a major budget,” said Shin Seung-chun, head of Gangneung City’s Green Space Division. “We will continue expanding seasonal flower paths suited to local characteristics and road conditions so residents can experience the changing seasons and enjoy more inviting streets in their daily lives.”
