A Heart That Remembered Its Neighbors, Even While Away

누군가를 돕는 일에는 반드시 거창한 계기가 필요한 것은 아닙니다. 바쁜 일상 속에서도 어려운 이웃을 한 번 더 생각하는 마음, 그리고 그 마음을 행동으로 옮기는 작은 실천에서 나눔은 시작됩니다.

Helping others does not always require a grand occasion. Sometimes, kindness begins simply by thinking of neighbors in need amid a busy day—and turning that thought into action.

동해시 발한동에 따뜻한 전화 한 통이 걸려왔습니다. 전화를 건 사람은 ㈜유강플랜트 정인교 대표였습니다. 타지역 출장으로 바쁜 일정을 보내고 있었지만, 추석을 앞두고 지역의 어려운 이웃들을 잊지 않았습니다.

A heartfelt phone call recently reached Balhan-dong in Donghae City. It came from Jeong In-gyo, CEO of Yugang Plant Co., Ltd. Although he was away on a busy business trip, he had not forgotten neighbors in need as Chuseok approached.

정 대표는 발한동행정복지센터에 직접 전화를 걸어 “추석을 앞두고 관내 어려운 이웃들에게 조금이나마 보탬이 되고 싶다”는 뜻과 함께 성금 300만 원을 기탁했습니다.

Jeong personally called the Balhan-dong Administrative Welfare Center and donated 3 million won, saying, “With Chuseok approaching, I wanted to offer even a little help to neighbors in our community who are going through difficult times.”

멀리 떨어져 있어도 마음의 거리는 멀지 않았습니다. 출장지에서 걸려온 전화 한 통은 독거어르신과 저소득 취약계층을 향한 따뜻한 마음으로 이어졌습니다.

Physical distance did not create distance of the heart. A single phone call from afar became a meaningful expression of care for seniors living alone and other vulnerable residents.

기탁된 성금은 사회복지공동모금회 강원지회를 통해 지정예탁돼 발한동지역사회보장협의체가 추진하는 ‘2026년 추석맞이 선물 나눔 행사’에 사용될 예정입니다. 한 기업인의 마음이 추석을 맞는 이웃들의 따뜻한 선물로 다시 태어나는 셈입니다.

The donation will be designated through the Gangwon branch of the Community Chest of Korea and used for the 2026 Chuseok Gift-Sharing Event organized by the Balhan-dong Community Social Security Council. One business leader’s generosity will soon be transformed into warm holiday gifts for local neighbors.

■ 한 번이 아니라 매달, 따뜻한 한 끼의 동행

Not Just Once, but Every Month: Sharing a Warm Meal

동호동에서는 조금 다른 모습의 선한 동행이 계속되고 있습니다. 춘식이네찜나라 이준영 대표는 관내 독거어르신들을 위해 아구찜을 매월 동호동행정복지센터에 정기적으로 기탁하고 있습니다.

In Dongho-dong, another form of compassionate giving continues month after month. Lee Jun-young, owner of Chunsikine Jjিমnara, regularly donates braised monkfish dishes every month through the Dongho-dong Administrative Welfare Center for seniors living alone.

한 번의 후원도 소중하지만 매달 약속을 지키며 나눔을 이어간다는 것은 또 다른 의미를 갖습니다. 따뜻한 음식 한 끼에는 어르신들의 건강을 걱정하는 마음과 함께, “당신은 혼자가 아닙니다”라는 이웃의 조용한 안부가 담겨 있기 때문입니다.

Every donation matters, but continuing to give month after month carries a special meaning. A warm meal offers more than nourishment—it carries a quiet message of care: “You are not alone. Your neighbors are thinking of you.”

이준영 대표는 “작은 정성이지만 어르신들께 따뜻한 마음이 전해지길 바라는 마음으로 후원을 시작했다”며 “앞으로도 지역사회의 어려운 이웃들에게 도움이 될 수 있도록 꾸준히 나눔을 이어가겠다”고 말했습니다.

Lee said, “I began this support hoping that, although it may be a small gesture, our warm feelings would reach the elderly. I will continue sharing what I can so that we can help neighbors in our community who are facing difficulties.”

■ 선한 마음이 이어질 때, 도시는 더 따뜻해집니다

When Kindness Continues, a City Grows Warmer

한 사람은 출장길에서 전화 한 통으로 마음을 전했고, 또 한 사람은 매달 따뜻한 음식을 준비합니다. 나눔의 방법은 서로 다르지만 향하는 곳은 같습니다. 바로 우리 곁의 이웃입니다.

One person shared his heart through a phone call while away on business. Another prepares warm food every month. Their ways of giving may be different, but their kindness is directed toward the same place—their neighbors.

300만 원의 성금도, 정성스럽게 마련한 아구찜 한 끼도 결국 사람과 사람을 이어주는 마음입니다. 이런 마음들이 하나둘 모이면 지역사회는 단순히 함께 사는 공간을 넘어 서로를 돌보고 안부를 묻는 공동체가 됩니다.

A donation of 3 million won and a carefully prepared meal may take different forms, but both connect one person to another. As such acts of kindness accumulate, a community becomes more than a place where people simply live side by side—it becomes a place where neighbors care for one another.

나눔은 크기로 기억되는 것이 아니라 지속되는 마음으로 기억됩니다.
