준설토 부지의 변신, 바다 곁 1만㎡ 코스모스 물결

바다·해안숲·꽃밭 어우러져…산책과 맨발걷기 즐기는 시민 친수공간

동해시 부곡동 돌담마을 해안숲과 인접한 묵호항 제2준설토 투기장에 코스모스가 만개했다.

Cosmos flowers are now in full bloom at Mukho Port’s No. 2 dredged-soil disposal site, located next to the coastal forest of Bugok Stone Wall Village in Donghae City.

약 1만㎡ 규모로 펼쳐진 코스모스 꽃밭이 바다와 해안숲 경관과 어우러지면서 한여름의 끝자락, 다가오는 가을을 느끼게 하는 새로운 풍경을 만들고 있다.

Covering approximately 10,000 square meters, the expansive cosmos field blends beautifully with the sea and surrounding coastal forest, creating a seasonal landscape that signals the approaching autumn as summer begins to fade.

이곳은 묵호항 준설 과정에서 발생한 토사를 처리하기 위해 조성된 부지다. 동해시는 유휴 항만부지를 그대로 두는 대신 계절별 꽃밭을 조성해 시민과 방문객들이 바다를 가까이에서 즐길 수 있는 경관공간으로 활용하고 있다.

The site was originally created to accommodate soil generated during dredging operations at Mukho Port. Rather than leaving the unused port land idle, Donghae City has transformed it into seasonal flower fields, providing residents and visitors with an attractive waterfront landscape where they can enjoy the sea up close.

특히 코스모스 꽃밭과 인접한 돌담마을 해안숲 일원은 시민들의 산책과 휴식공간으로 이용되고 있다. 이른 아침이면 바다를 바라보며 산책하거나 맨발걷기를 하는 시민들을 만날 수 있고, 꽃밭이 만개하면서 걷는 길에 계절의 풍경까지 더해졌다.

In particular, the coastal forest around Stone Wall Village, adjacent to the cosmos field, has become a popular place for local residents to walk and relax. In the early morning, people can often be seen strolling or walking barefoot while looking out over the sea. With the cosmos now in full bloom, visitors can also enjoy the changing colors and scenery of the season along their walk.

동해시는 이곳에 올해 청보리를 시작으로 금계국과 꽃양귀비 등 계절별 초화류를 식재해 봄과 초여름의 풍경을 선보였다. 이어 코스모스가 꽃을 피우면서 여름에서 가을로 이어지는 또 하나의 계절 풍경을 더하고 있다.

Earlier this year, Donghae City planted a variety of seasonal flowers and plants here, beginning with green barley and followed by coreopsis and poppies, creating colorful scenery throughout spring and early summer. Now, with cosmos flowers coming into bloom, the site presents another beautiful landscape marking the transition from summer to autumn.

시는 앞으로도 준설토 부지를 비롯한 유휴공간을 활용해 계절별 경관을 조성하고, 주변 해안숲과 산책공간을 연계해 시민들이 바다를 가까이에서 걷고 쉬며 즐길 수 있는 친수공간으로 가꿔 나갈 계획이다.

Donghae City plans to continue transforming dredged-soil sites and other unused spaces into seasonal landscapes. By connecting these areas with nearby coastal forests and walking paths, the city aims to create welcoming waterfront spaces where residents and visitors can walk, rest, and enjoy the sea at close range.

#정인화 녹지과장은 “유휴 항만부지에 계절마다 새로운 풍경을 더하면서 인근 해안숲을 찾는 시민들에게 걷고 쉬는 즐거움도 함께 제공하고 있다”며 “시민과 방문객들이 바다와 계절의 변화를 가까이에서 느낄 수 있도록 지속적으로 가꿔 나가겠다”고 말했다.

Jeong In-hwa, head of Donghae City’s Greenery Division, said, “By bringing a new seasonal landscape to unused port land, we are also giving people who visit the nearby coastal forest more opportunities to walk, relax, and enjoy the surroundings. We will continue to care for and improve this area so that residents and visitors can experience the sea and the changing seasons up close.”
