동해시 별누리천문대가 여름방학을 맞아 밤하늘이 선사하는 특별한 추억을 시민과 관광객들에게 선물한다. 오는 8월 11일부터 14일까지 4일간, 여름철 대표 천문 현상인 페르세우스 유성우를 직접 관측하는 특별 천문 프로그램 ‘별똥별 멍’을 운영한다.

Donghae Byeolnuri Observatory is inviting residents and visitors to create unforgettable memories beneath the summer night sky. From August 11 to 14, the observatory will host a special four-day astronomy program, “Meteor Shower Stargazing,” featuring the Perseid meteor shower, one of the most spectacular astronomical events of the summer.

이번 프로그램은 여름밤을 수놓는 페르세우스 유성우를 주제로 진행된다. 참가자들은 유성우가 어떻게 만들어지는지 생성 원리와 관측 방법을 배우고, 스마트폰을 활용해 별과 별똥별을 촬영하는 방법도 익힐 수 있다.

The program focuses on the Perseid meteor shower, which lights up the night sky every summer. Participants will learn how meteor showers are formed, discover practical observation techniques, and receive tips on how to photograph stars and shooting stars using a smartphone.

교육이 끝난 뒤에는 야외 관측 장소로 이동해 본격적인 별똥별 관측에 나선다. 돗자리에 편안하게 누워 여름밤 별자리를 찾아보고, 밤하늘을 가로지르는 별똥별을 기다리는 특별한 시간이 이어진다. 가족과 함께 밤하늘을 바라보는 것만으로도 여름방학의 소중한 추억이 될 것으로 기대된다.

After the learning session, participants will head outdoors for the highlight of the evening. Lying comfortably on mats beneath the open sky, they can identify summer constellations and wait for shooting stars to streak across the darkness. For families, simply sharing this quiet moment under the stars promises to become a treasured summer memory.

페르세우스 유성우는 매년 8월 중순 절정을 이루는 대표적인 유성우다. 관측 조건과 날씨가 좋을 경우 시간당 수십 개의 유성을 볼 수 있어 전 세계적으로도 많은 사랑을 받는 여름철 천문 현상 가운데 하나다.

The Perseid meteor shower reaches its peak every year in mid-August. Under favorable weather and viewing conditions, observers may see dozens of meteors per hour, making it one of the most popular and eagerly anticipated celestial events of the summer.

프로그램은 시민과 관광객 누구나 참여할 수 있으며, 참가 신청은 8월 7일 오후 2시부터 동해시청소년시설 홈페이지를 통해 선착순으로 접수한다. 여름 휴가철 동해를 찾는 관광객들에게도 바다와 함께 밤하늘의 아름다움을 경험할 수 있는 색다른 여행 프로그램이 될 것으로 보인다.

The program is open to both Donghae residents and visitors. Registration begins at 2 p.m. on August 7 through the Donghae Youth Facilities website and will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. For travelers visiting Donghae during the summer holiday season, the program offers a unique opportunity to enjoy not only the city’s beautiful sea but also its spectacular night sky.

#별누리천문대 관계자는 “여름방학을 맞아 아이들과 가족이 함께 밤하늘을 바라보며 자연과 우주의 신비를 가까이에서 느껴보는 뜻깊은 시간이 되길 바란다”며 “별똥별을 직접 관측하는 특별한 경험이 오래 기억에 남는 여름 추억이 되길 기대한다”고 말했다.

An official from Byeolnuri Observatory said, “We hope this summer program gives children and families a meaningful opportunity to look up at the night sky together and experience the wonders of nature and the universe up close. We also hope the unforgettable experience of seeing shooting stars with their own eyes will remain a cherished summer memory for years to come.”
