동해시는 최근 폭염특보가 이어지면서 도로 복사열과 도시 열섬현상이 심화됨에 따라 시민들의 체감온도를 낮추고 보다 쾌적한 도심 환경을 조성하기 위해 주요 간선도로를 중심으로 살수작업을 강화하고 있다.

With prolonged heatwave warnings intensifying road surface heat and the urban heat island effect, Donghae City has strengthened water spraying operations along major arterial roads to lower perceived temperatures and improve urban comfort.

폭염이 지속되는 기간에는 매일 낮 12시부터 오후 6시까지 살수차 2대를 운영하며, 차량 통행량이 많은 도로와 보행자가 집중되는 구간을 중심으로 집중 살수를 실시한다.

During the heatwave period, two water sprinkler trucks operate daily from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., focusing on roads with heavy traffic and areas frequently used by pedestrians.

특히 하루 중 가장 무더운 시간대에 살수를 집중해 달궈진 아스팔트의 표면 온도를 낮추고 복사열을 줄여 시민들이 체감하는 더위를 완화하는 데 중점을 두고 있다.

Special emphasis is placed on spraying during the hottest hours of the day to cool heated asphalt surfaces, reduce radiant heat, and ease the intense heat experienced by residents.

157개 무더위쉼터 운영… 생활밀착형 폭염대책 확대

157 Cooling Shelters and Community-Based Heatwave Protection

시는 살수작업과 함께 시민 안전을 위한 생활밀착형 폭염 대응도 강화하고 있다.

Alongside road spraying, the city is expanding community-based measures designed to protect residents from extreme heat.

현재 관내 무더위쉼터 157개소를 운영하고 있으며, 냉방시설과 운영 상태를 지속적으로 점검하고 있다. 또한 무더위쉼터로 지정된 경로당 128개소에는 체감온도계를 배부해 이용자의 건강관리를 지원하고 있다.

Donghae City currently operates 157 cooling shelters, regularly inspecting their cooling systems and operating conditions. Heat index thermometers have also been distributed to 128 senior centers designated as cooling shelters to help safeguard users' health.

횡단보도 그늘막 등 폭염저감시설도 지속적으로 점검하고 있으며, 시립도서관과 동 행정복지센터, 보건소에는 시민 누구나 자유롭게 이용할 수 있는 '양심양산'을 비치해 폭염 대응을 지원하고 있다.

The city continues to inspect heat mitigation facilities such as crosswalk shade structures. In addition, shared "Honesty Parasols" are available at public libraries, community service centers, and public health centers for anyone to borrow freely.

이와 함께 폭염 취약계층의 안부 확인과 건강관리, 현장 근로자 대상 온열질환 예방교육 등 분야별 맞춤형 대응도 병행하고 있다.

Additional efforts include checking on vulnerable residents, monitoring their health, and providing heat illness prevention education for outdoor workers.

#홍성표 동해시 건설과장은 "폭염이 장기화되면서 시민들이 체감하는 더위가 매우 큰 상황"이라며 "주요 도로 살수작업과 폭염 대응시설 운영을 통해 시민들이 보다 안전하고 쾌적한 환경에서 생활할 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠다"고 밝혔다.
