버려진 그림책의 새로운 변신

버려지는 그림책이 새로운 예술작품으로 다시 태어났다. 동해시는 폐그림책을 활용해 만든 업사이클링 팝업북 작품 400여 점을 선보이는 「보는 책, 노는 책, 만드는 책, 다시 보는 책 展」을 오는 8월 30일까지 망상해뜰책뜰(1·2층)에서 개최한다.

Discarded picture books have been given a remarkable second life. Donghae City is hosting "Books to See, Play With, Create, and Rediscover", an upcycling pop-up book exhibition featuring around 400 creative works made from recycled picture books. The exhibition runs through August 30 at Mangsang Haeddeul Book Garden (1st & 2nd Floors).

업사이클링 팝업북은 다 읽고 버려지거나 활용도가 낮아진 그림책을 입체적인 팝업북으로 새롭게 제작한 작품이다. 단순한 재활용을 넘어 자원의 가치를 되살리고, 책이 가진 새로운 가능성을 발견할 수 있도록 기획됐다.

Each upcycled pop-up book transforms used or forgotten picture books into three-dimensional works of art. More than simple recycling, the project gives books a renewed purpose while encouraging visitors to appreciate both creativity and environmental sustainability.

올해로 다섯 번째를 맞는 이번 전시는 2024년 창단된 ‘망상해뜰책뜰 누리봉사단’ 회원들이 재능기부를 통해 제작한 작품 400여 점으로 꾸며졌다. 한 장 한 장 손길이 더해진 작품들은 버려질 뻔한 책에 새로운 생명을 불어넣고 있다.

Celebrating its fifth exhibition, this year's showcase features approximately 400 handcrafted works created through volunteer talent-sharing by members of the Mangsang Haeddeul Book Garden Nuri Volunteer Group, established in 2024. Every piece reflects patience, imagination, and the joy of giving old books a meaningful new life.

전시가 끝난 뒤에는 작품 200여 점이 바닷가작은도서관 2층에 상시 전시되어 시민과 관광객들이 지속적으로 감상할 수 있다. 전시는 휴관일인 월요일과 화요일을 제외하고 오전 10시부터 오후 4시까지 누구나 무료로 관람할 수 있다.

After the exhibition concludes, around 200 selected works will remain on permanent display at the Seaside Small Library (2nd Floor), allowing both residents and visitors to continue enjoying them. Admission is free, and the exhibition is open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., except on Mondays and Tuesdays.
