동해시, AI 데이터센터 캠퍼스 추진 위한 글로벌 협력 본격화

Donghae City Launches Global Partnership for AI Data Center Campus

동해시는 대한민국 정부의 AI 메가프로젝트와 연계한 AI 데이터센터 캠퍼스 조성을 위해 강원특별자치도와 GS㈜와 전략적 업무협약(MOU)을 체결하며 미래 AI 산업도시로의 도약을 본격화했다.

Donghae City has taken a significant step toward becoming a leading AI industry hub by signing a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gangwon State and GS Corporation. The partnership supports the development of an AI Data Center Campus aligned with the Korean government's national AI Mega Project initiative.

협약식은 7월 6일 강원특별자치도청에서 개최됐으며, 우상호 강원특별자치도지사, 이정학 동해시장, 홍순기 GS㈜ 대표를 비롯한 관계자들이 참석해 AI 산업 생태계 조성과 지속 가능한 협력 방안을 논의했다.

The agreement was signed on July 6 at the Gangwon State Government Office. Governor Woo Sang-ho, Donghae Mayor Lee Jeong-hak, GS CEO Hong Soon-gi, and senior officials gathered to establish a long-term partnership aimed at creating a world-class AI ecosystem and fostering sustainable industrial growth.

이번 협약은 대규모 AI 데이터센터 캠퍼스의 성공적인 구축을 위해 행정지원, 인허가 절차, 기반시설 조성, 관계기관 협력 등을 체계적으로 추진하기 위한 협력체계를 구축하는 데 의미가 있다.

The MOU establishes a comprehensive cooperation framework designed to accelerate project implementation through streamlined administrative services, fast-track permitting, infrastructure development, and close coordination among government agencies and industry partners.

협약에 따라 각 기관은 사업 추진 과정에서 발생하는 주요 현안에 공동 대응하고, 신속한 행정지원과 투자환경 조성을 통해 글로벌 수준의 AI 데이터센터 캠퍼스를 구축해 나갈 계획이다.

Under the agreement, the partners will work together to resolve key project issues, enhance the investment environment, and provide efficient administrative support, laying the foundation for a globally competitive AI Data Center Campus.

동해시는 강원특별자치도 및 관계기관과 긴밀한 협력을 지속하며 사업이 안정적으로 추진될 수 있도록 적극적인 지원을 이어갈 방침이다.

Donghae City will continue working closely with Gangwon State and its institutional partners to ensure the project advances efficiently, creating a stable and business-friendly environment for future AI investments.

Mayor Lee Jeong-hak stated, "The AI Data Center Campus represents a transformative growth engine for Donghae City and a strategic project that will strengthen Korea's AI competitiveness. Together with our partners, we will build Donghae into a globally recognized hub for AI innovation, digital infrastructure, and advanced technology investment."
