From conservation to experience: strengthening Donghae’s ecological tourism foundation

동해시가 망상 해안숲과 사구습지를 연결하는 산책로를 조성한다.

Donghae City will develop a new walking trail connecting the Mangsang coastal forest with its unique dune wetland, creating a seamless nature experience for visitors.

이번 사업은 해안숲을 찾는 시민과 관광객에게 망상 사구습지와 해안사구생태관, 해안식물 보호지역을 하나의 탐방 동선으로 연결해 생태교육과 체험, 휴식이 어우러지는 생태관광 기반을 구축하기 위해 추진된다.

The project is designed to connect the Mangsang dune wetland, the Coastal Dune Ecology Center, and the protected coastal plant habitat into a single exploration route. Visitors will be able to enjoy ecological education, hands-on nature experiences, and peaceful relaxation within one integrated eco-tourism destination.

시는 사업비 1억 원을 투입해 목재데크로드 12경간과 야자매트 산책로 303m를 조성하여 해안숲과 습지의 경관을 보다 가까이에서 체험할 수 있도록 할 예정이다.

With an investment of KRW 100 million, the city will construct twelve sections of wooden deck pathways and a 303-meter eco-friendly palm-fiber trail, allowing visitors to experience the beauty of the coastal forest and wetland up close while minimizing environmental impact.

망상 해안사구는 갯방풍, 갯메꽃, 갯완두 등 다양한 해안식물이 자생하는 동해안을 대표하는 생태공간이다.

The Mangsang coastal dunes are one of the East Coast's representative ecological landscapes, home to a rich variety of native coastal plants such as Glehnia littoralis, beach morning glory, and beach pea, making the area an important natural habitat.

동해시는 그동안 해안식물 보호구역 지정과 해안사구생태관 운영, 해안식물 복원 및 종자 증식, 외래식물 제거, 생태조사와 유아숲체험 프로그램 운영 등 해안사구 생태계 보전을 위한 다양한 정책을 지속적으로 추진해 왔다.

Donghae City has consistently implemented a wide range of conservation initiatives, including designating protected coastal plant areas, operating the Coastal Dune Ecology Center, restoring native vegetation, cultivating indigenous plant seeds, removing invasive species, conducting ecological surveys, and offering forest nature programs for young children.

#심광진 녹지과장은 “망상 해안숲과 사구습지는 동해시의 자연자산이자 관광자원”이라며 “앞으로도 자연환경을 보전하면서 시민에게는 휴식공간을, 관광객에게는 차별화된 생태관광 콘텐츠를 제공할 수 있도록 친환경 녹색 인프라를 지속적으로 확대해 나가겠다”고 말했다.

Shim Gwang-jin, Director of the Green Space Division, said, "The Mangsang coastal forest and dune wetland are both valuable natural assets and tourism resources for Donghae City. We will continue expanding eco-friendly green infrastructure that preserves the environment while providing peaceful recreational spaces for residents and distinctive ecological tourism experiences for visitors."
