스마트폰도 척척…천곡동 어르신들, 디지털 세상과 손잡다

Seniors in Cheongok-dong Master Smartphones and Embrace the Digital World

동해시 천곡동이 지역 어르신들의 디지털 역량 강화를 위해 특별한 배움의 장을 마련했다. 스마트폰과 키오스크 사용이 일상이 된 시대에 어르신들이 정보화 사회에 자연스럽게 적응할 수 있도록 돕기 위한 디지털기기 활용 교육이 본격적으로 시작됐다.

Cheongok-dong in Donghae City has launched a special learning program to enhance seniors’ digital literacy. As smartphones and kiosks become part of everyday life, the program aims to help older adults adapt confidently to the rapidly evolving digital society.

이번 교육은 6월부터 12월까지 진행되며, 디지털 배움터 찾아가는 파견 교육사업과 연계해 운영된다. 교육을 신청한 지역 내 11개 경로당을 대상으로 전문 강사가 직접 방문해 주 1회 맞춤형 교육을 실시한다.

The program will run from June through December in cooperation with the nationwide Digital Learning Center outreach initiative. Professional instructors will visit 11 participating senior centers once a week to provide personalized digital education.

교육 내용은 어르신들의 일상생활에 꼭 필요한 실용적인 기능들로 구성됐다. 카카오톡 메시지 보내기, 동해페이 앱 사용하기, QR코드 인식하기, 무인 주문기인 키오스크 활용법 등 생활 밀착형 실습 교육이 중심이다.

The curriculum focuses on practical skills that seniors can immediately use in daily life. Lessons include sending KakaoTalk messages, using the Donghae Pay mobile application, scanning QR codes, and operating self-service kiosks commonly found in restaurants and public facilities.

특히 이번 교육은 단순한 기기 사용법을 넘어 디지털 환경에 대한 두려움을 줄이고 사회와의 소통을 확대하는 데 의미가 있다. 어르신들은 새로운 기술을 배우며 자신감을 얻고, 더욱 편리한 생활을 누릴 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Beyond teaching technical skills, the program seeks to reduce anxiety toward digital technology and encourage greater social participation. By learning new tools, seniors are expected to gain confidence, stay connected, and enjoy a more convenient lifestyle.

Digital technology is no longer reserved for younger generations. The learning taking place in Cheongok-dong’s senior centers is opening new possibilities for older adults, bringing vitality to their lives and serving as a meaningful bridge across the digital divide.
