131 Community Education Activists in Gangwon Endorse Kang Sam-young
“The Best Candidate to Restore Community Education and Revitalize Gangwon’s Schools”
A total of 131 community education activists across Gangwon Province officially declared their support for Kang Sam-young, a candidate for Superintendent of Education, on June 1.
The endorsement ceremony was held at Kang's campaign office and attended by community education leaders including Son Sang-dal, head of the Gangwon Community Education Activists Network; Lee Gui-ok, director of Hongcheon Saekkijul; activist Lee Hyo-sook; Yoon Hyo-joo, CEO of Bidan Byeongpung; and Kim Ji-hee, head of the Toegyesup Community Education Council. Choi Yoon, senior campaign committee chair, attended on behalf of Kang Sam-young.
The participants noted that amid regional population decline and widening educational disparities, support systems for community-based schools have largely disappeared, forcing many educational communities to suspend or scale back their activities.
They emphasized that revitalizing community education, strengthening specialized programs for small schools, and improving rural study-abroad initiatives are essential for the future of Gangwon education. They also stressed the need for stronger institutional support and educational governance that enables schools and local communities to grow together.
The activists described Kang as “a candidate who deeply understands the value of community-based education,” adding that he is the most suitable leader to restore the educational ecosystem that has weakened over the past four years.
They concluded by pledging their full support for Kang Sam-young, stating that they will work together to ensure the healthy development of children and build a sustainable future for local communities.
Meanwhile, Kang’s campaign announced that all campaign activities have been temporarily suspended following the fire incident at Hanwha Aerospace in Daejeon earlier in the day, expressing condolences and sympathy to the victims and their families.
