“한복 한 자락에 스민 강릉의 온기”

초여름 바람이 부드럽게 스쳐가던 날, 강릉의 오래된 시간 속으로 세계 각국의 청춘들이 걸어 들어왔다.

On a gentle early-summer day, young students from around the world stepped quietly into the timeless heart of Gangneung.

낯선 나라에서의 첫 학기.

설렘과 긴장이 교차하는 시간 속에서 외국인 유학생들은 단순한 ‘관광’이 아니라, 강릉이라는 도시의 숨결을 천천히 느끼는 하루를 만났다.

Their first semester in a foreign country was filled with excitement and uncertainty.

But this day was not merely about sightseeing — it was about feeling the quiet rhythm and warmth of Gangneung itself.

강릉시와 강릉문화원이 마련한 ‘제20회 유학생 초청 강릉 문화 탐방’은 관내 대학 신입 외국인 유학생 40명에게 한국 전통문화의 깊이를 직접 체험할 수 있는 특별한 시간을 선물했다.

Hosted by the 강릉문화원 and the city of Gangneung, the “20th Gangneung Cultural Tour for International Students” offered 40 newly admitted foreign students a meaningful opportunity to experience the depth of Korean tradition firsthand.

유학생들이 가장 먼저 마주한 곳은 천년의 품격이 살아 숨 쉬는 오죽헌.

검은 대나무 숲 사이로 이어진 고즈넉한 길 위에서 학생들은 신사임당과 율곡 이이의 삶을 들으며 한국의 정신문화와 마주했다.

Their journey began at 오죽헌, a historic site steeped in centuries of Korean heritage.

Walking among the black bamboo groves, the students learned about Shin Saimdang and Yulgok Yi I, discovering the philosophical spirit embedded in Korean history.

어떤 학생은 5만 원권 지폐 속 인물을 실제 공간에서 만나게 되어 신기하다고 웃었고,

또 다른 학생은 한옥 마루 끝에 앉아 오래된 나무 냄새와 바람 소리를 조용히 기억에 담았다.

Some smiled in amazement at seeing the real-life setting connected to the figures on Korean banknotes, while others sat quietly on the wooden floor of the hanok, absorbing the scent of aged timber and the sound of the breeze.

이어진 한복 체험에서는 색색의 전통 의상이 세계 각국 청춘들의 얼굴 위에 새로운 표정을 입혔다.

In the hanbok experience, vibrant traditional garments brought entirely new expressions to the faces of students from around the globe.

서툰 손끝으로 찻잔을 들며 배우는 다도 시간에는 언어보다 느린 마음의 속도가 더 중요했다.

During the tea ceremony session, students discovered that the calmness of the heart mattered more than language itself.

뜨거운 차 한 잔을 사이에 두고 서로의 문화를 이야기하는 모습은, 마치 오래전부터 알고 지낸 친구들처럼 자연스러웠다.

Sharing warm tea and stories from their homelands, the students looked less like strangers and more like old friends reunited.

강릉은 단순히 아름다운 관광지가 아니라, 사람의 마음을 천천히 열게 만드는 도시인지도 모른다.

Perhaps Gangneung is more than just a beautiful tourist destination — perhaps it is a city that gently opens people’s hearts.

그리고 이날의 문화 탐방은 외국인 유학생들에게 ‘한국에서의 유학 생활’이 아니라,

‘강릉에서 살아가는 기억’을 선물한 하루였다.

For these international students, the cultural tour became more than just part of studying in Korea — it became the beginning of a memory called living in Gangneung.
