동해시는 5월 14일 오후 2시 폐기물종합단지에서 ‘공사장 생활폐기물 선별시설 설치공사 준공식’을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

Donghae City announced that it held the completion ceremony for the “Construction-Site Household Waste Sorting Facility Installation Project” at the Comprehensive Waste Complex on May 14 at 2 PM.

이날 준공식에는 지역 주민과 폐기물업체, 시공업체 관계자 등 100여 명이 참석했으며 감사패 전달과 테이프 커팅식 등이 진행됐다.

 Around 100 participants, including local residents, waste management companies, and construction firms, attended the ceremony, which featured appreciation plaque presentations and a ribbon-cutting event.

이번 사업은 2030년 시행 예정인 가연성 폐기물 직매립 금지 정책에 선제적으로 대응하고, 주거환경 개선 과정에서 발생하는 공사장 생활폐기물의 재활용 비율을 높이기 위해 추진됐다.

 The project was launched as a proactive response to the upcoming 2030 ban on direct landfill disposal of combustible waste and to improve recycling rates of household waste generated from construction and housing improvement projects.

새롭게 조성된 시설은 하루 40톤 처리 규모로, 건축면적 1,607㎡에 총사업비 80억 원이 투입된 국내 최초의 공사장폐기물 자원순환시설이다.

 The newly established facility can process 40 tons of waste per day and was built with a total investment of KRW 8 billion over a floor area of 1,607㎡, making it Korea’s first resource-circulation facility dedicated to construction-site household waste.

시설 내부에는 수선별장과 파쇄기, 선별기 등이 설치돼 가연성 폐기물과 불연성 폐기물을 효율적으로 분리 처리할 수 있도록 구축됐다.

 The facility is equipped with manual sorting stations, shredders, and sorting machines, enabling efficient separation and treatment of combustible recyclable waste and non-combustible waste.

시는 이번 시설이 국내 폐기물 선별기술 발전의 모범사례로 자리매김해 타 지자체의 견학과 벤치마킹이 이어질 것으로 기대하고 있다.

 The city expects the facility to become a model case for advanced waste-sorting technology in Korea and anticipates visits and benchmarking efforts from other local governments.

현재 동해시는 종량제봉투 생활폐기물의 92%를 재활용하고 있으나, 공사장 생활폐기물 재활용률은 30% 수준에 머물고 있다.

 Currently, Donghae City recycles 92% of standard household waste collected through volume-based waste bags, while the recycling rate for construction-site household waste remains at around 30%.

이에 시는 지난 3월부터 시운전을 진행해 왔으며, 오는 7월부터 본격 가동을 시작해 기존 인력 중심 선별 방식을 기계 선별 방식으로 전환하고 재활용률을 50%까지 높일 계획이다.

 Since March, the city has been conducting trial operations and plans to officially begin operation in July. The city aims to shift from labor-intensive sorting to mechanical sorting and increase the recycling rate to 50%.

#박화경 환경과장은 “공사장 생활폐기물 선별시설 운영을 통해 폐기물의 안정적 처리와 자원 재활용을 강화해 탄소중립도시 실현에 힘쓰겠다”고 말했다.

 Park Hwa-gyeong, head of the Environment Division, stated, “Through the operation of this sorting facility, we will strengthen stable waste treatment and resource recycling to help realize a carbon-neutral city.”
