Donghae Senior Welfare Center Celebrates Parents’ Day and Its 26th Anniversary Together

5월의 햇살이 유난히 따뜻했던 날,

동해시노인종합복지관에는 카네이션보다 더 붉은 마음들이 피어났다.

On a warm May morning filled with gentle sunlight,

hearts redder than carnations quietly bloomed inside the Donghae Senior Welfare Center.

8일 오전, 동해시노인종합복지관 3층 대강당에서는 ‘제54회 어버이날 및 개관 26주년 기념식’이 열렸다.

행사장은 부모 세대에 대한 감사와 존경, 그리고 세월을 견뎌온 삶에 대한 따뜻한 박수로 가득했다.

On May 8, the 3rd-floor auditorium of the Donghae Senior Welfare Center hosted the “54th Parents’ Day and 26th Anniversary Celebration.”

The hall was filled with gratitude, respect, and heartfelt applause for the generation that endured life’s many hardships with love and sacrifice.

이날 행사에는 심규언 동해시장을 비롯해 민귀희 의장, 도·시의원, 사회복지법인 관계자와 지역 어르신 등 400여 명이 참석했다.

누군가는 부모를 떠올리며 눈시울을 붉혔고, 또 누군가는 손에 쥔 카네이션을 오래도록 바라보았다.

Around 400 guests attended the event, including Mayor 심규언, City Council Chair 민귀희, local officials, welfare foundation representatives, and senior citizens from the community.

Some quietly wiped tears as they remembered their parents, while others gazed at the carnations in their hands for a long moment.

행사의 시작은 동해삼육초등학교 학생들의 기악합주였다.

작은 손으로 연주하는 맑은 선율은 마치 “고맙습니다”라는 말을 대신 전하는 듯했다.

The ceremony began with an instrumental ensemble performance by students from Donghae Sahmyook Elementary School.

Their innocent melodies sounded like a gentle way of saying, “Thank you.”

이어 심규언 시장은 직접 어르신들의 가슴에 카네이션을 달아드리며 깊은 존경의 마음을 전했다.

꽃 한 송이를 건네는 짧은 순간이었지만, 그 안에는 세월과 희생, 사랑에 대한 긴 감사가 담겨 있었다.

Mayor Sim personally pinned carnations onto the seniors’ jackets, expressing sincere respect and appreciation.

Though it lasted only a brief moment, the gesture carried years of gratitude for sacrifice, devotion, and unconditional love.

또한 경로효친과 노인복지 증진에 기여한 유공자 9명에게 강원특별자치도지사상과 시장상, 기관장상이 수여됐다.

누군가는 오랜 봉사를 인정받았고, 누군가는 묵묵히 이어온 효의 마음으로 박수를 받았다.

Nine individuals who contributed to filial piety and senior welfare received awards from the Governor of Gangwon State, the Mayor, and local institutions.

Some were honored for years of volunteer service, while others were recognized for quietly practicing compassion and respect toward elders.

이어진 축하공연에서는 추억의 포크송과 흥겨운 트롯 무대가 이어졌다.

어르신들은 음악에 맞춰 손뼉을 치고 함께 노래를 따라 부르며, 잠시 청춘으로 돌아간 듯 환하게 웃었다.

The celebration continued with nostalgic folk songs and lively trot performances.

The seniors clapped along, sang together, and smiled brightly as if they had briefly returned to their youth.

복지관 밖에서도 따뜻한 나눔은 계속됐다.

동해병원과 정신건강복지센터, 국민체력100동해센터 등 지역 기관들은 건강체크와 체험부스, 먹거리 행사를 운영하며 어르신들의 하루를 더욱 풍성하게 채웠다.

Outside the welfare center, local organizations including Donghae Hospital, the Mental Health Welfare Center, and the National Fitness 100 Donghae Center operated health checkups, experience booths, and food stations, making the day even more meaningful and enjoyable.

심규언 시장은 이날 축사를 통해 이렇게 말했다.

“어려운 시절에도 가족을 먼저 생각하며 자녀를 위해 모든 것을 아끼지 않으셨던 부모님의 삶을 우리는 오래 기억해야 합니다.”

In his speech, Mayor Sim shared these words:

“We must never forget the lives of our parents, who always placed their families first and sacrificed everything for their children, even in difficult times.”

어버이날은 단지 하루의 기념일이 아니다.

우리를 위해 가장 오래 사랑해준 사람들을 다시 떠올리는 날이며,

그 사랑을 다음 세대에도 이어가겠다고 다짐하는 약속의 시간이다.

Parents’ Day is more than just a holiday.

It is a day to remember those who loved us the longest,

and a promise to carry that love and respect into the next generation.
