The First Step to Becoming a Better Parent
Donghae City to Host “Parents for the First Time” Group Education Program
Donghae City announced that it will operate the group education and counseling program “Parents for the First Time” for parents who are struggling to raise adolescent children. The program will be held twice, on consecutive Saturdays from November 15 to 22.
This program aims to help parents better understand their teenage children and support their healthy growth within an environment of love and protection. In particular, it will provide practical parenting guidelines that parents can apply in everyday life, focusing on topics such as approaches to sex education and “Useful Tips for Raising Adolescents.”
Earlier in April, Donghae City conducted a group counseling program titled “Parental Empathy” in cooperation with the Parent Association. The program received positive feedback for addressing parents’ roles and communication methods regarding sex education for children. Through this new initiative, the city expects to reduce the parenting burden for those raising teenagers and promote a culture of healthy family communication.
Registration begins on October 15 and is open to the first 15 applicants. Eligible participants are parents or guardians raising children aged 11 to 18 who reside in Donghae. Applications can be submitted online through the Donghae Youth Facility website (www.dh.go.kr/dhyc/index.do
).
Cheon Su-jeong, head of the Department of Physical Education, commented, “Becoming a good parent requires continuous self-reflection and education. We hope this program will help strengthen parents’ parenting skills and support the healthy growth of their children.”
