Wonju City has been awarded the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Governor’s Commendation for Excellence in the Joint Government Evaluation in the Youth Sector, in recognition of its achievements in youth policy implementation.
The award ceremony took place on September 22 at the 14th Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Youth Leaders Conference, held at Topten Resort Donggang S-Star in Yeongwol County.
The Joint Government Evaluation is a system in which central ministries and local governments jointly assess key policy tasks. Wonju was recognized for outstanding achievements in strengthening youth counseling and support systems, operating customized programs for out-of-school youth, and establishing policy foundations to expand youth participation.
Building on this recognition, Wonju plans to further strengthen the functions of its Youth Counseling and Welfare Center, enhance support for youth shelters and out-of-school youth support centers, and continue implementing various policies. These efforts aim to create more opportunities for young people to grow independently within their communities, moving closer to the vision of “Wonju, a city where youth are happy.”
Kim Kyung-mi, Head of the Education and Youth Division, stated, “This award is the result of Wonju’s continuous efforts to support the healthy growth and independence of young people. We will continue to strengthen our policies and initiatives to create an environment where youth can embrace hope and realize their dreams.”
