강릉시, 남대천 용수개발로 가뭄 극복 총력

Gangneung City Pushes Additional Water Development from Namdaecheon to Secure Daily Supply

강릉시가 최악의 가뭄 상황 속에서 생활용수 확보를 위해 남대천 용수개발 사업을 본격 추진하고 있다. 시는 대형 관정 개발과 양수펌프 설치를 통해 하루 2,500톤의 원수 확보를 목표로 하고 있다.
Gangneung City is moving forward with an additional water development project at Namdaecheon River to secure daily household water supply amid a severe drought. The city aims to secure 2,500 tons of raw water per day through the construction of large-diameter wells and installation of pumping facilities.

지난 8월 20일, 강릉시 주요 식수원인 오봉저수지의 저수율이 20%대로 떨어졌으며, 8월 30일에는 대통령 방문과 함께 재난사태 지역으로 선포됐다. 9월 3일 현재 저수율은 13%까지 하락한 가운데, 당분간 비 소식이 없어 가뭄 위기가 장기화될 것으로 보인다.
On August 20, the water level of Obong Reservoir, Gangneung’s main water source, fell to the 20% range. On August 30, during the President’s visit, the city was officially declared a disaster area. As of September 3, the reservoir’s water level dropped further to 13%, with no forecast of rainfall, raising concerns about a prolonged drought crisis.

강릉시는 이에 따라 홍제정수장 인근에서 지하수 관정 개발과 양수펌프장 설치를 추진하고 있다. 사업비는 재난특별교부세 5억 원이 투입되며, 대형 관정 5공과 펌프장 1곳이 포함된다. 현재 관정 5공 중 4공이 완료됐으며, 펌프장은 토공 작업이 진행 중이다. 시는 9월 중 모든 설치를 마무리하고 시험 가동에 들어갈 예정이다.
In response, the city is developing underground wells and installing a pumping station near Hongje Water Purification Plant. The project is funded with 500 million KRW from the Disaster Special Grant Fund and includes the construction of five large-diameter wells and one pumping facility. Four of the wells have already been completed, while groundwork for the pumping station is underway. The city plans to complete installation within September and begin trial operations.

이번 추가 용수 확보로 강릉시는 롯데시네마 등 보조 수원 활용, 남대천 구산보 생활용수 전환, 차량 운반 급수, 오봉저수지 원수 추가 투입, 연곡정수장 비상송수와 함께 일 3만 톤 이상의 생활용수를 공급할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
With this additional supply, Gangneung expects to secure over 30,000 tons of household water per day, combined with supplementary sources such as Lotte Cinema’s water supply, conversion of Namdaecheon’s Gusan Weir for household use, truck-based water delivery, additional intake from Obong Reservoir, and emergency water supply from Yeongok Water Purification Plant.

#김홍규 강릉시장은 “가뭄 위기 속에서 단 한 방울의 물도 놓치지 않겠다는 절박한 심정으로 원수를 확보하고 있다”며, “시민들께서 우려하는 단수 상황이 발생하지 않도록 행정력을 총동원해 이번 위기를 반드시 극복해 나가겠다”고 강조했다.
Mayor Kim Hong-kyu of Gangneung stated, “We are striving to secure every drop of water possible amid this drought crisis,” adding, “We will mobilize all administrative resources to prevent any water outage and overcome this challenge together with our citizens.”
