Kangwon State University’s Community Volunteer Work at “Elderly Unity Festival” Receives Enthusiastic Response

강원도립대학교(총장 김광래) 바리스타제과제빵과는 6월 13일(금), 강릉시 주문진에 위치한 ‘(사)작은샘터회’가 주최한 ‘어르신 한마음대잔치’에 참여해 지역 어르신들을 위한 ‘사랑의 빵’ 나눔 및 무료 음료 코너 운영 등 자원봉사 활동을 진행했다. 이번 행사는 대통령 선거로 인해 일정이 연기되어 이날 진행되었다.

On Friday, June 13, the Department of Barista & Baking at Kangwon State University (President Kim Gwang-rae) participated in the “Elderly Unity Festival” hosted by the non-profit organization Little Spring Associationin Jumunjin, Gangneung. The students engaged in volunteer work including distributing handmade “Love Bread” and operating a free beverage corner for the elderly. The event had been rescheduled due to the presidential election.

학생들은 전날 밤늦게까지 직접 만든 사랑의 빵 400여 개를 행사에 참석한 어르신들께 정성껏 전달하며 지역사회의 따뜻한 온정을 나눴다.

The students personally baked and wrapped over 400 loaves of “Love Bread” the night before, delivering them with care to the elderly guests, sharing warmth with the community.

특히 바리스타제과제빵과 2학년 황서예 학생은 “이번 행사는 이동형 커피트럭을 제작한 후 외부에서 처음 진행한 행사로, 많은 분들의 관심과 응원을 받았다”라며 “우수한 장비 지원을 아끼지 않은 대학에 진심으로 감사드린다”라고 말했다.

Second-year student Hwang Seoye of the Barista & Baking Department shared, “This was the first outdoor event since our mobile coffee truck was completed, and we received a lot of encouragement from the public,” adding, “I’m truly grateful to our university for generously providing top-notch equipment.”

강원도립대학교의 (사)작은샘터회 봉사활동 참여는 2002년부터 시작되어 25년 가까이 꾸준히 이어져 온 전통 있는 활동으로, 지역사회에 따뜻한 나눔을 실천해오고 있다.

Kangwon State University’s volunteer involvement with Little Spring Associationbegan in 2002 and has become a long-standing tradition of nearly 25 years, consistently spreading warmth in the local community.

이번 봉사활동을 지도한 최근표 교수는 “학생들이 자신의 미래 직업과 연결된 기술로 봉사활동에 참여하게 되어 매우 기뻐했다”라며 “앞으로도 시민들과 함께할 수 있는 곳이라면 어디든지 찾아가겠다”라고 전했다.

Professor Choi Geun-pyo, who supervised the activity, remarked, “Students were delighted to volunteer using skills related to their future careers,” adding, “We are committed to participating wherever we can join hands with citizens.”

김광래 총장은 “우리 대학은 강원특별자치도의 지원을 받는 공립대학으로서 지역사회에 기여할 책임이 있다”라며 “앞으로도 도민께 감사하는 마음으로 봉사의 기회를 더욱 확대해 나가겠다”라고 밝혔다.

President Kim Gwang-rae stated, “As a public university supported by Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, we have a responsibility to give back to the community,” and added, “We will continue to expand volunteer opportunities with gratitude to the residents of our province.”
