Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province (Governor Kim Jin-tae, hereafter referred to as ‘the Province’) announced that it has successfully attracted 700 group tourists from the Philippines during the winter tourism season via chartered flights between Yangyang and Manila.

The Philippine tourists will visit the Province over four flights from December 18 to 30 through Yangyang International Airport.

A welcoming ceremony for the first group of arriving tourists will be held on December 18 (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Yangyang International Airport, in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization and Korea Airports Corporation.

The Philippines ranks as the 7th largest source of inbound tourists to Korea, with 410,000 annual visitors.

It is considered one of the most promising markets for growth in the Southeast Asian region. Additionally, the Philippines is included in the visa-free entry program for Yangyang Airport.

During their 2-night, 3-day trip, the Philippine tourists will experience diverse winter and wellness programs. The itinerary includes sledding competitions and wellness programs at High1 Resort in Jeongseon, the Arirang Museum experience, tours of Nami Island in Chuncheon, and visits to iconic sites such as the BTS bus stop in Gangneung.

To make the visit unforgettable, the Province and the Korea Tourism Organization will host a special sledding competition and awards ceremony at High1 Resort in Jeongseon. The competition will be divided into two groups, with prizes such as Gangwon local specialty gift sets and other awards given to winners.

Various programs, including a photo zone and prize draws, are prepared to provide unique and memorable winter experiences.

The Province aims to leverage this group tour as a strategic starting point to attract Southeast Asian tourists from “snowless countries” such as the Philippines. By offering differentiated winter tourism content, including snow, ski programs, and winter festivals, the Province intends to establish itself as a premier winter destination for international visitors.

The flagship winter tourism brand ‘Gangwon Snow Festa’ will showcase the charm of Gangwon’s winter. Programs include the ‘Fun & Go-Go Ski’ experience that combines snow, ski, winter festivals, and K-pop tourism; the ‘Snow Gangwon Shuttle Tour’, which links key attractions and food tours; and visits to filming locations of popular K-dramas.

Additionally, in collaboration with the Korea Tourism Organization, the Province has invited the popular Filipino influencer family, the ‘Melai Family’ (Channel: Melason family), to promote Gangwon’s winter tourism.

The Melai Family boasts 10 million Facebook followers and 2.3 million YouTube subscribers. Through a familiarization tour, they will highlight Gangwon’s winter attractions, including wellness experiences at High1 Resort, Jeongseon Arirang culture, skiing, traditional Korean hanok stays in Gangneung, and vibrant local markets.

Jung Il-seop, Head of the Global Division at Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province, stated, “We warmly welcome the first group of winter tourists from the Philippines arriving at Yangyang International Airport. We hope they create unforgettable winter memories here in Gangwon Province. Moving forward, we will continue to promote Gangwon’s winter tourism content to attract group and individual tourists from the Philippines, Vietnam, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other Southeast Asian markets, in conjunction with the ‘2025-2026 Visit Gangwon Year’ initiative.”

강원특별자치도(도지사 김진태, 이하 ‘도’)는 동계 관광 시즌을 맞아「양양~필리핀(마닐라)」 동계 전세기를 통해 필리핀 단체관광객 700여 명을 유치했다고 밝혔다.

이들은 12월 18일부터 30일까지 총 4차례에 걸쳐 양양국제공항을 통해 도를 방문한다고 밝혔다.

도에서는 한국관광공사 및 한국공항공사와 협력하여 첫 항공편이 도착하는 12월 18일(수) 오전 11시, 양양국제공항에서 입국 관광객 환영식을 개최할 예정이다.

필리핀은 방한 외래 관광객 수 7위(41만 명) 국가로, 동남아 시장에서 도가 큰 성장 가능성을 지닌 주요 해외시장 중 하나이며, 양양공항 무사증 입국 대상 국가이기도 하다.

이번 필리핀 단체관광객들은 2박 3일 일정 동안, 정선에서 하이원리조트 눈썰매 대회, 웰니스, 아리랑 박물관 체험과 함께, 춘천 남이섬 투어를 거쳐 강릉 BTS 버스정류장 방문 등 강원특별자치도의 동계·웰니스·한류 관광 콘텐츠를 체험한다.

특히, 도와 한국관광공사는 이번 필리핀 단체관광객들에게 특별한 겨울 추억을 만들어주기 위해 정선 하이원리조트에서 ‘썰매대회와 시상식’을 개최한다.

2개 조로 나누어 진행되는 썰매대회에서 조별 우승자에게는 강원 특산품 꾸러미와 다양한 시상품을 제공할 예정이다. 또한 포토존 운영과 경품추첨 등 다채로운 프로그램을 준비해 특별한 겨울 추억을 선사한다.

도는 이번 필리핀 단체관광객 유치를 기점으로, ‘눈이 없는 나라’ 동남아 관광객들에게 눈(Snow)과 스키(Ski), 겨울축제 등 차별화된 동계 관광 콘텐츠를 제공해 외국인 관광객의 수요를 적극 선점할 계획이다.

대표적인 동계관광 브랜드인 ‘강원 스노우페스타’는 눈·스키·겨울축제와 한류 관광 콘텐츠를 결합한 ‘펀&고고스키’ 프로그램, 주요 관광지와 먹거리 체험을 연계한 ‘스노우 강원(Gangwon)-셔틀 투어’, 겨울축제 및 한류드라마 촬영지 탐방 등으로 강원 동계관광의 매력을 널리 알릴 예정이다.

또한, 도는 한국관광공사와 협업하여 필리핀 인기 인플루언서 ‘멜라이 가족(채널명: Melason family)’을 초청해 강원 겨울 관광을 홍보한다.

멜라이 가족은 페이스북 팔로워 1천만 명, 유튜브 구독자 230만 명을 보유하고 있다. 팸투어를 통해 정선 하이원 웰니스 체험, 아리랑, 스키체험, 강릉 한옥체험, 전통시장 먹거리 등 강원의 겨울 관광 매력을 적극 홍보할 계획이다.

정일섭 강원특별자치도 글로벌본부장은 “양양국제공항을 통해 입국한 필리핀 동계 첫 단체관광객 여러분을 환영하며, 강원특별자치도에서 자국에서는 경험할 수 없는 특별한 겨울 추억을 만드시길 바란다”며, “향후 ‘2025-2026 강원방문의 해’와 연계해, 동계시즌 필리핀, 베트남, 대만, 홍콩 등 동남아 단체 관광객 및 개별관광객 유치를 위해 더욱 노력하겠다”고 밝혔다.
